What you need to know about Plywood
Plywood is a great alternative to solid wood and is stonger yet less expensive. It can come in almost any wood species including some exotic woods and usually will give a more uniform appearance. Foot for foot, plywood is stronger, more stable, more flexible and less expensive than solid wood.
The most common type of plywood is "Veneer Core Plywood". The core, or middle, of this type of plywood is made from thin layers of wood (plies or veneers) that are glued in opposite grain directions for superior strength. The outer plies are called the "face" and the "back" and are what gives the appearance of solid wood. Usually the face is a better grade than the back. Other types include "Lumber Core" and "MDF Core" but are much less common and not as strong.
Plywood comes in two major catagories - Domestic and Imported. The Domestic grades usually have a very compact core and have the most uniformity in appearance. Imported plywood is made to be less expensive while still offering a variaty of different species. Tri-Supply offers both. We also have matching dimensional boards in 1x2 through 1x18.
